Dr. Gurpal Singh Bhuller

Born and raised in Ipoh, Malaysia, Dr. Bhuller has been staying in the United States for the past twenty-two years. 
He completed his initial school education at the Anderson School in Ipoh, Malaysia. After completing his schooling, Dr. Bhuller choose to go to his ancestral land of Punjab for higher education. He acquired his Pre-medical degree from the Mahendra College in Patiala and his MBBS from the Christian Medical School in Ludhiana. He then returned to Malaysia where he worked for three years in  the Malaysian Health System. 

In 1976, wanting to specialize in the field of Orthopedic Surgery, he left for New Zealand. Dr. Bhuller did his first three years of residency at Middlemore Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand and then moved to the United States at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska. After completing his residency he joined a private practice in 1982 in Orthopedic Surgery in Hopewell, Virginia. The practice has now grown to six physicians and has its main office in Colonial Heights, Virginia. Dr. Bhuller was made a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons in 1984.

 Apart from his own private practice, Dr. Bhuller has also been involved in several private ventures such as Trinity Laboratories Inc and Highlands LLC. 

His other appointments include:
1. Member of the Malpractice Review Panel, Supreme Court of Virginia
2. Orthopedic Consultant, Greenville Correctional Center, Jarratt, Virginia
3. American Medical Association.
4. Richmond Orthopedic Club.
5. Oriental Numismatic Society.
6. Virginia Orthopedic Society.


As a member of the Sikh faith, Dr. Bhuller has and continues to nurture numerous Sikh and non-Sikh charitable activities. Some of them are:
1.Commissioner, Hospital Authority, Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, Virginia.
The Southside Regional Medical Center is the only hospital and the largest employer in the Tri-City area and has a staff of 240 Physicians and about 1400 employees. The Hospital Authority is the governing body of this institution.
2.Board of Trustees, John Randolph Foundation, Hopewell, Virginia.
The John Randolph Foundation is a charitable Foundation formed by the sale of John Randolph Medical Center in 1995. The profits from the sale set up the Foundation and it is managed by the Trustees to benefit the people of Hopewell and the surrounding areas. Dr. Bhuller was the past President of the Foundation.
3.Chairman, Board of Trustees, Association of Sikh Professionals.
The Association of Sikh Professionals is a charitable 501 c (iii) organization that serves to benefit the Sikh community in the U.S.A. It was founded in 1984. 
4.Coordinator, Sikh Education Aid Fund.
The Sikh Education Aid Fund, founded in 1989, is one of the projects of the Association of Sikh Professionals and runs a scholarship fund to help Sikh students in the United States.
5.Sikh Association of Central Virginia.
This is a Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship) in the Richmond area of Virginia.
6.Board of Directors, Sikh Mediawatch and Resource Task Force, (SMART)
Smart is a Sikh advocacy group dedicated to the correct projection of the Sikh image in the United States.

Some of his hobbies and personal interests are playing the Tabla (musical instrument), Collecting old Sikh Manuscripts and prayer books (gutke), acquiring Sikh artifacts and collecting coins of old Punjab. He is actively involved with the Perak Sikh Education Aid Fund in his hometown of Ipoh, Malaysia and has also built an addition to the school in his ancestral village of Bhullar, near Muktsar, in Punjab, India. 


Dr. Bhuller is married to Dr. Neena Singh ( from Patiala, Punjab) and they have two daughters, Harsharen and Simran.
