Continuing its commitment to fostering an entrepreneurial spirit and cross-cultural education, the Sikh
Foundation proudly announces the second event of the Quarterly Startup Series titled “My Journey:
Sharing the Successes of Entrepreneurs and Innovators” featuring Dr. Daniel Adams, PhD, Chief Scientist
for Neuralink Corp, interviewed by Raj Kapany.
This series provides a personal perspective on entrepreneurship, delving into often-overlooked personal
and emotional aspects of innovation. It employs a hybrid format, combining in-person and virtual
sessions. Each event features a 40-45 minute in-depth interview with a prominent entrepreneur, followed
by a 15-minute interactive Q&A session. These discussions will delve into some thought-provoking
themes such as innovative research, challenges of scientific research and collaboration, and insights into
the nuances of scientific discovery while maintaining a life-work balance.
On April 10, 2024, from 1-2:30 PM PST, the series will feature Daniel Lewis Adams, Ph.D.,
Neuroscientist, in conversation with Raj S Kapany. Daniel is a visual neuroscientist specializing in
binocular vision in humans and non-human primates. He uses psychophysical, behavioral,
electrophysiological, and anatomical techniques to study the primate visual system at a number of levels
from the retina to the cortex. He is currently researching implantation surgeries used in
neurophysiological experiments.
The upcoming session will take place in person on the beautiful UCSC campus in Baskin Engineering and
will be hosted by Raj Kapany, a Trustee of the Sikh Foundation. This session is set to offer a riveting
dialogue, illuminating the paths of entrepreneurs who have navigated and surmounted substantial
challenges.
The “My Journey: Sharing the Successes of Entrepreneurs” series is a testament to the Foundation’s
dedication to bridging knowledge gaps and nurturing future leaders. This initiative offers a platform for
exploring the multifaceted world of entrepreneurship. This innovative program is rooted in the
foundation’s rich legacy established by Dr. Narinder Kapany in 1967, in partnership with the University of
California Santa Cruz’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (CIED) and Baskin
School of Engineering—where Dr. Kapany made significant contributions and aims to empower a diverse
audience—from students to professionals—across California to around the world.
The Sikh Foundation envisions this series as a catalyst for inspiration and empowerment, transcendinggeographical barriers and nurturing a global community of innovative, resilient entrepreneurs.
